![]() Arctic Odyssey Local Artist Creates Mural for Children’s Room at the Library
Artist Annie Patterson, commissioned by the Rotary Club of Barrow-Nuvuk and the Friends of Tuzzy Library, devoted several months to the painting of Arctic Odyssey for the children’s room in the library - and the results are breathtaking. Asked to create a scene depicting children of the circumpolar Arctic, Patterson collaborated with Barrow High School students to research the customs, clothing, and activities of the seven largest indigenous groups in the north: the Inupiat, Canadian Inuit, Greenlandic and Chukchi Eskimos, the Saami of Scandinavia and the Nenet and Yakut of Siberia. The finished mural will hang in the children’s room at Tuzzy Library for all to enjoy. Sara Jeffress 12/06 |
